Golf

The Vendée and nearby départements have a fine selection of high quality
golf courses. Membership is not a requirement and fees are generally
very reasonable. The courses are seldom crowded and some of our
guests playing mid-week in May or June have almost had the course to
themselves. The list below is a short selection of some of the best.
La Domangere
18 Holes – Par 72 6472 mtrs
Host to
the 1990 French Championships La Domangere is a parkland course with
plenty of
lakes and ponds.
The numerous water hazards make the course a real challange: many holes
have more than one crossing twixt tee and green. The clubhouse was built
in the 18th century and is particularly fine.
La Pree La Rochelle
18 Holes - par 72 5931 mtrs
A
links course with numerous bunkers, near to La Rochelle. The course
overlooks the beautiful the Ile de Ré and some of the holes follow the
coastline. The course is built on drained marshlands and the level
aspect means that the wind can provide an interesting challenge.
Nonetheless, this is an attractive course with much to be enjoyed by all
golfers.
Petit Chene
18 holes - Par 72 6021 mtrs
Located near Poitiers, this parkland course is set in the grounds of a
rather splendid château. The holes are an interesting mix of Scottish
and American style and the course is well planted with trees, making for
a very attractive aspect. There are some very "interesting" water
hazards, but the course holds appeal for players of all levels of
experience.
Les Fontenelles
18 holes - Par 72 6195 mtrs
Another sea-side course where the wind
can add interest. The course is set in parkland and bordered by water.
The hazards are thoughtfully placed and make the course very well suited
to mixed ability play.
Port de Bourgenay
18 hole - par 72 5830 mtrs
A particularly scenic
course that has aspects of sea, pine forest and countryside. This
American style course requires more thoughtful play than others in the
area, though is again suitable for a wide range of experience. On the
same site there is tennis and swimming, so can feature as a family day
out.
