"We have just had the most wonderful 2 weeks here - and have managed to
relax and forget about real life at "Les Alouettes"! The children
have had an absolutely fantastic time. What has added to the
holiday is the wonderful "home from home" feel to the gite - absolutely
everything we could ever need - and also the company of the 3 girls, who
have on several occasions taken all our children to play / pick tomatoes
:/ feed the guinea pigs / chickens / swim etc."
Les Alouettes started life as a barn and has been converted
into a gite providing accommodation of the highest standard.
The property
is entered across a private terrace via French doors. The terrace is
equipped with large wooden table, chairs and a parasol, perfect for al
fresco dining morning, noon or night and of course a BBQ. On entering, you find yourself in
a large kitchen / dining room (about 20 feet by 26). The dining table
seats eight in comfort. Booster seats and high chairs are
provided. There is a sofa for relaxing while dinner cooks. An area has
been set aside for children and their toys, with a large rug, a child
sized table and chairs for colouring, etc.
The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, range cooker, large fridge / freezer, washing machine, coffee maker, toaster and microwave. A welcome pack is provided with
brioche, wine, jam, tea, coffee, milk etc. Children's tableware is provided as are unbreakable glasses for use by the pool and Tupperware for picnics. A full range of utensils and pans is provided (including saucepans actually big enough to cook for eight!). Some cupboards have safety catches to keep small fingers out.
Above the kitchen and reached by a stairway (with stair gates) is a large mezzanine sitting area (about 20 feet by 20) with sofa and easy chairs for eight people, a collection of books and games, and a CD player for your choice of music. Also on the mezzanine is a
TV with English language channels and a video and DVD player with a selection of children's and adult tapes. We have a range of DVDs that can be
borrowed without charge. This is an ideal place for you to relax once children have gone to bed.
The barn
that formed Les Alouettes was of a classic Vendée design with "wings"
either side of a larger central building. The gite uses this layout to
best advantage by having sleeping accommodation arranged on both sides
of the central area. One wing has a king size plus a twin room and a bathroom with bath, over bath shower and WC;
the other is similar but with a double room plus twin. This arrangement allows two families to holiday comfortably together while allowing each an element of privacy. Cots are also provided (NOT travel cots
- proper cots with mattresses).
The large swimming pool at Les Alouettes
is heated for comfort. The pool is "L" shaped, 12m long and from 4 to 8
m wide. Wide steps and a large shallow area (80 cm) make the pool
particularly attractive for children. Plenty of seating (loungers and
chairs) is provided. The swimming pool and garden are shared with Jon,
Julia and the girls.

The play area is adjacent to the pool and
is equipped with a large wooden climbing frame, slide, trampoline,
sandpit and a range of outdoor toys. On the lawned area opposite, there
is a wendy house.
Bed linen, bath and pool towels are provided. Cleaning of the
gite at the end of your stay is included (so you don't have to spend the last few hours of your break mopping and dusting) and for those staying more than one week, a mid-holiday change of linen is available at no extra charge.
Disabled Access
While the property is not
specifically designed for guests with physical disability, the
arrangement of bedrooms on the ground floor of Les Alouettes with only
one or two steps up from the living area means that this gite may be
suitable for children or adults with limited mobility. We have welcomed
guests with special needs at Les Alouettes and at our other properties
in the past and would be very happy to discuss individual
requirements.
